Laser Spider
Vein Therapy
Spider
Veins or telangiectasias are facial veins caused by a dilation
of capillary vessels or arterioles.
They may be visible through the skin or result in a
red, blue or purple appearance of the skin.
Laser
Vein Therapy
Today's
new medical lasers provide safe and effective non-surgical
treatment options to eliminate unattractive spider veins with
the gentle action of a light beam.
The mild and precise treatment characteristics of the
laser provide consistent results.
In most cases, treatments are performed without the
need for anesthesia.
How
does Laser Therapy Work?
A
laser generates an intense beam of light.
This beam delivers energy through a special laser
handpiece to the targeted vein. The energy is then absorbed by
the blood vessels, but not the surrounding tissue.
The heat absorption causes a coagulation of the blood
vessel, which is then slowly absorbed by the body. Most laser
therapy patients report little discomfort.
How
Many Treatments will I need?
Typically,
multiple treatments are necessary to achieve optimal results.
Smaller vessels usually require two to three
treatments. Veins,
which are more difficult to remove, require more treatments.
The treatments are spaced at four to six week
intervals.
How
long do treatments take?
Depending
on the number of vessels treated and their location,
treatments generally take several minutes.
Is
Laser Treatments Safe?
Yes.
Lasers have been used safely for millions of treatments
worldwide. Only
the specific vessels are treated, leaving the surrounding
tissue intact. The
risk of scarring is minimal, and some bruising or redness may
occur.
Are
There Other Treatments Available for Spider and Varicose
Veins?
Yes.
Laser therapy may be combined with Injection
Sclerotherapy. During
sclerotherapy a sclerosing solution is injected into the vein
through a micro-needle. The
solution causes the vein to blanch (turn white), then
gradually disappear. A
typical treatment may last for 15 to 20 minutes and consist of
multiple injections.
